On-going Economic Insecurity for Working Women

From a scan of 12,000 working women by Working America and the AFL-CIO, 50% of respondents said that if they had more unrestrictedly time they’d take on a second job.  42% disburse more time talking to co-workers than their kids or families; 53% would take a 10% in over affordable healthcare or childcare.

Two-thirds expected to have less straitened than they do, 52% expected to be earning more money than they currently are.

And here’s a genuine kicker (links to full survey results):

“Moreover, women are acutely au fait that their chances for job improvement are limited simply because they are women. As good as half say they know or believe that men are being paid more than women. Worse, two-thirds swear by that being male, younger or more attractive would increase their chances of handbill. And 80 percent say “having children hurts their occupation and prospects in the job market” but note that men suffer no such imbroglio if they have children.”

And in line with our efforts here at H1K and our support for Sen. Clinton:

“Undeterred by the pressures, or perhaps because of them, working women continue to strongly support gains for women as a savoir vivre. Eighty percent of the respondents say they identify with the goals and ideals of feminism, and 43 percent be sorry for strongly about it. And they are not just hoping for change: 90 percent say they voted in the last referendum, and six in 10 support efforts to encourage voting by women.”
